Photoroom Review 2026: Pricing, Free Plan Limits and Is It Worth It
Our scorecard
3.9/5Scored against our editorial rubric. How we score →
Photoroom's US prices, read on photoroom.com on October 23, 2026: Pro $12.99 a month or $89.99 a year (8,000 AI credits and 1,000 exports a month), Max $34.99 a month or $249.99 a year (25,000 credits, 3,000 exports, Video Generator and Shopify integration), Ultra $99 a month or $990 a year (75,000 credits, 10,000 exports, 4K). Enterprise is quoted. Pro and Max yearly plans carry a 7-day free trial for first-time subscribers. Photoroom says credit allowances vary by country, so check the figure shown to you before paying.

Pros
- Background removal, AI Fill, AI Expand, Retouch, Image Enhancer and preset shadows cost no AI credits on any paid plan, per Photoroom's pricing page, so the everyday cutout job does not drain the credit pool
- Pro at $89.99 a year works out at $7.50 a month for 1,000 exports, and paying yearly saves $65.89 against twelve monthly payments, about 42 percent
- Photoroom publishes how many generations each credit-based tool allows per plan, so you can see before paying that Pro's 8,000 credits cover up to 4,000 basic AI Backgrounds or up to 400 Edit with AI generations
- Up to 50 seats on every self-serve plan share one Space, with a Brand Kit included from Pro
- Support draws praise in ten of the 40 most recent Trustpilot reviews read on October 23, 2026, including a credit error fixed within 24 hours and two months refunded to a subscriber in financial hardship
- The US App Store listing shows 4.8 out of 5 across about 231,000 ratings, read on October 23, 2026
Cons
- The free plan is for personal, non-commercial use only under Photoroom's own terms, so a seller cannot legally run a shop's listing photos through it
- Six of the 40 most recent Trustpilot reviews describe being charged after or instead of a free trial, and the yearly trial applies to first-time subscribers only
- Seven of the same 40 reviews say the app got worse after recent updates, two naming the redesigned batch editing workspace
- Shopify integration is not included on Pro; it starts at Max, $34.99 a month or $249.99 a year
- Photoroom states that AI credit allowances may vary by country or region, and the same pricing page showed 4,500 Pro credits from a Turkish connection against 8,000 in its US catalog
- Cancelling on a different platform from the one you subscribed on does not stop billing, by Photoroom's own help article, and each Space carries its own subscription, so duplicate charges are easy to create
- Refunds are limited to 7 days after the last payment, are not guaranteed, are not offered to API users, and go through Apple, Google or Shopify if you subscribed there
- Video Generator is Max and above only, at about 500 credits a clip by the vendor's own figures, which is 50 videos a month on Max

Pricing at a glance
Pricing verified 2026-10-23- Pro: $12.99 a month, or $89.99 a year
- 8,000 AI credits and 1,000 exports a month, all core tools, AI Backgrounds and AI Fashion Models. No Video Generator, no Shopify integration, no 4K. Twelve monthly payments come to $155.88, so the yearly plan saves $65.89, about 42 percent, and works out at $7.50 a month. The yearly plan carries a 7-day free trial for a first-time subscriber. Read from photoroom.com/pricing, US dollar catalog, October 23, 2026.
- Max: $34.99 a month, or $249.99 a year
- 25,000 AI credits and 3,000 exports a month, adds Video Generator (up to 50 generations a month) and Shopify integration. Twelve monthly payments come to $419.88, so paying yearly saves $169.89, about 40 percent, and works out at $20.83 a month. The yearly plan carries a 7-day free trial.
- Ultra: $99 a month, or $990 a year
- 75,000 AI credits and 10,000 exports a month, adds 4K image and video output and up to 150 video generations. The yearly discount is smaller here: $990 against $1,188, a saving of $198, about 17 percent. There is no standard free trial on Ultra. Larger Ultra multiples run to $990 a month for 750,000 credits and 100,000 exports.
- Free plan: $0, personal and non-commercial use only
- Photoroom's help center lists the Free plan with limited features, lower AI credit and export limits, no API access, and a licence for personal, non-commercial purposes only. Its export-limit table puts Free at 100 exports a month. Free-plan tools such as Background Remover and AI Expand also carry a daily usage limit that Photoroom describes as much lower than on paid plans.
- Enterprise: custom quote
- Usage-based pricing with one shared annual balance across the Photoroom apps and the API, plus SLA, SSO and dedicated onboarding, none of which the self-serve plans include. Photoroom says Enterprise contracts can be funded in USD, EUR or GBP.
- Price basis and what to verify
- Every figure above comes from photoroom.com/pricing on October 23, 2026, in both states of the Monthly/Yearly toggle, from the US dollar catalog the page carries. Photoroom prices by location and says credit allowances vary by region, so a visitor outside the US can see a different currency and a different credit count. The US App Store lists the same $89.99 and $249.99 yearly prices plus several shorter-period price points; Photoroom's help center says weekly billing exists only on mobile.
Plans change often, so confirm current pricing.
Photoroom is an AI photo editor from Photoroom S.A.S. that removes backgrounds, cleans up and restages product photos, and exports listing-ready images on the web, on iOS and Android, and through an API. It is built for people who sell things online and need the same kind of image every week, and the question most readers bring to a Photoroom review is narrower than "is it good": which plan do I need, what do the credits buy, and can I use the free version for my shop. The short answers are Pro for most small sellers, credits only matter for generative tools, and no.
Is Photoroom worth it for an online store?
Photoroom is worth it for a seller who produces product photos every month and fits inside Pro's 1,000 exports, at $89.99 a year or $12.99 a month. The cutout and cleanup tools a store uses most (Background Remover, Retouch, AI Fill, AI Expand, Image Enhancer and preset shadows) cost no AI credits on any paid plan, according to Photoroom's pricing page, so the monthly price buys plain white-background work in volume.
It is a weaker buy in three cases. If you only need a handful of images a year, the yearly plan buys capacity you will not use, and the free plan does not cover commercial use. If you run Shopify and want Photoroom to push edited images straight back to your products, that integration starts at Max, $249.99 a year, nearly three times Pro. And if your catalog leans on AI fashion models or video, the credit pool, not the price, decides which plan you need.
The way to start is the yearly Pro trial: 7 days free for a first-time subscriber. Before you tap, check the credit figure the pricing page shows for your country, and set a reminder for day 6. If anyone has started a Photoroom trial on the same Apple ID before, expect the trial not to apply; a Trustpilot review from September 2026 by Svetlana Smith describes being charged the full annual fee at once in exactly that case. If it is not for you, cancel on the platform you subscribed on, as the cancellation section below explains.
How much does Photoroom cost?
Photoroom Pro costs $12.99 a month or $89.99 a year, Max costs $34.99 a month or $249.99 a year, and Ultra costs $99 a month or $990 a year, in US dollars on photoroom.com on October 23, 2026. Enterprise is quoted separately. Pro and Max yearly plans include a 7-day free trial for a first-time subscriber, and Ultra has none, per Photoroom's free-trial help article.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | Yearly, per month | AI credits a month | Exports a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | $0 | Lower than paid (not published) | 100 |
| Pro | $12.99 | $89.99 | $7.50 | 8,000 | 1,000 |
| Max | $34.99 | $249.99 | $20.83 | 25,000 | 3,000 |
| Ultra | $99 | $990 | $82.50 | 75,000 | 10,000 |
| Enterprise | Quote | Quote | Quote | Shared annual balance | Custom |
Prices read on photoroom.com/pricing on October 23, 2026, US dollar catalog, both billing toggles. The Free export figure comes from Photoroom's export-limit article.
Photoroom's own FAQ on the pricing page says VAT and GST are already included in the price, and the help center says Photoroom offers no lifetime plan, only weekly, monthly and yearly billing.
Photoroom Pro vs Max vs Ultra
Photoroom Pro is the plan for still images, Max adds video and Shopify, and Ultra adds 4K and much larger allowances. Pro excludes Video Generator, Shopify integration and 4K output. Max adds Video Generator (up to 50 generations a month) and Shopify integration. Ultra adds 4K image and video resolution and up to 150 video generations, and Photoroom sells Ultra in larger multiples up to $990 a month for 750,000 credits and 100,000 exports. All three self-serve plans allow up to 50 seats in a Space and include a Brand Kit.
A rule of thumb from the export limits on this page: up to 1,000 saved images a month, with no Shopify publishing and no video, is Pro. Up to 3,000 images, or any Shopify store that wants edited images published straight back to its products, or any video, is Max. Above 3,000 images a month, or a need for 4K output, is Ultra.
Monthly vs annual billing
Paying yearly saves about 42 percent on Photoroom Pro, 40 percent on Max and 17 percent on Ultra. Pro's twelve monthly payments total $155.88 against $89.99 for the year, and Max's total $419.88 against $249.99. Ultra's yearly discount is the smallest, $198 on $1,188. The export allowance resets monthly on yearly plans too, on the same day of the month the yearly billing period began.
Do web and mobile-app prices differ?
Photoroom's yearly prices on the US App Store match the web: the App Store listing shows Photoroom PRO at $89.99 and Photoroom Max at $249.99 among its in-app purchases, read on October 23, 2026. The same listing shows several other price points (PRO at $5.99 and $9.99, Max at $15.99) without a stated billing period. Photoroom's help center says weekly billing is only available on mobile subscriptions, and a Trustpilot reviewer, Ryan Freebody, wrote in October 2026 that they pay a weekly subscription, so weekly plans are in use. The listing does not label the periods, so check the period on the purchase screen before you tap.
Mobile purchases are billed through Apple or Google, and web purchases through Stripe by credit card only, per the pricing page FAQ. That choice decides how you cancel and how you get a refund.
What does a Photoroom credit buy versus an export?
Photoroom credits and exports are two separate monthly caps. AI credits pay for generative tools; exports count every image you download, save, share or publish to Shopify, one per image, including each image in a batch, per Photoroom's export-limit article. Photoroom's AI credits article says white backgrounds, templates and background removal use no credits at all.
Photoroom publishes the maximum number of generations each credit-based tool allows per plan, which makes the credit pool readable. On Pro's 8,000 credits, the pricing page lists:
| Credit-based tool | Pro (8,000 credits) | Max (25,000 credits) | Ultra (75,000 credits) |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Backgrounds Studio, basic | 4,000 | 12,500 | 37,500 |
| AI Backgrounds Studio HD or Relight | 1,000 | 3,125 | 9,375 |
| AI Images | up to 1,600 | up to 5,000 | up to 15,000 |
| AI Fashion Models, 1K | up to 1,600 | up to 5,000 | up to 15,000 |
| Edit with AI | up to 400 | up to 1,250 | up to 3,750 |
| Video Generator | not included | up to 50 | up to 150 |
Each figure assumes the whole pool is spent on one tool. Read October 23, 2026, on photoroom.com/pricing.
Worked through, a basic AI background costs 2 credits, Edit with AI about 20, and a video about 500, the same 500-credit figure TechRadar reported in its review. For a seller doing plain cutouts, the export limit arrives first. For a seller generating lifestyle scenes or model shots, the credit pool does.
How do you cancel Photoroom and get a refund?
You cancel Photoroom on the same platform you subscribed on, and Photoroom's cancellation article is blunt about the alternative: cancelling on a different platform will not stop billing and you will continue to be charged. App Store and Google Play subscriptions are cancelled in the store's own subscription settings. Web subscriptions are cancelled at app.photoroom.com under the Space's Billing page, through Stripe. Shopify subscriptions are cancelled through Shopify.
The second trap is structural: Photoroom runs one subscription per Space, so a person in two Spaces, or with an old account, can be paying twice. Photoroom's unexpected-charges article recommends checking every Space on the web app's Billing page, which shows mobile subscriptions too.
Refunds are possible within 7 days of your last payment on Pro, Max or Ultra, are not guaranteed, and are not available to API users, per Photoroom's refund policy. App Store, Google Play and Shopify refunds are handled by those stores, not by Photoroom.
Switching plans mid-term is its own limit. Alexis Valentine, a long-time Max subscriber on yearly billing, wrote in August 2026 that Photoroom would not move the account to an API subscription before the year ended unless both were paid for, and that they cancelled the renewal and moved to Pixelcut.
Is Photoroom free?
Photoroom has a Free plan, but it is licensed for personal, non-commercial use only, so it is not a free option for a business. Photoroom's help article on free accounts and commercial use quotes its terms directly: free accounts may use the service "for your own personal, non-commercial purposes." The plans article adds that Free has limited features, lower AI credit and export limits, and no API access.
The Free plan's export limit is 100 images a month in Photoroom's export-limit table. Free-plan tools such as Background Remover, AI Expand, Image Enhancer, preset AI Shadows, Resize and Retouch also carry a daily usage limit, which Photoroom's daily-limits article describes as much lower in a free Space than on a paid plan. Photoroom does not publish the daily number.
Photoroom free vs Pro
Photoroom Pro differs from the Free plan on licence first and capacity second. Pro grants commercial use, 1,000 exports a month against 100, an 8,000-credit pool, API and MCP access through a credit wallet worth the plan's price, and a daily limit Photoroom describes as unlikely to be reached.
Whether free exports carry a watermark, and at what resolution, is not stated on any Photoroom page read for this review, and third-party sources disagree. Check the export screen before you save: it shows what the file will be. For a shop the question is settled before the watermark is, because a free-plan image is not licensed for a listing. For personal use, the free web tool does the basic job without sign-up, by one account: Kryštof Robert Müller wrote on Trustpilot in August 2026 that they removed the backgrounds from four photos without registering.
When does Photoroom's free plan stop being enough?
Photoroom's free plan stops being enough the moment an image is for sale, because the licence is personal and non-commercial whatever the volume. A seller who lists even one product with a free-plan image is outside Photoroom's own terms.
The second wall is capacity, and it arrives faster than the 100-export figure suggests. Every image in a batch counts as one export, so a single afternoon re-shooting a 40-item catalog in two crops spends 80 of the month's 100. The daily limit on the cutout tools sits underneath that, unpublished, and Photoroom's own wording is that a free Space may hit it. Pro removes both walls for $89.99 a year, and its 1,000 exports cover a catalog of a few hundred products refreshed every month.
The third wall is specific to Shopify stores. Pro does not include the Shopify integration, so a Pro subscriber edits in Photoroom and uploads by hand. Publishing straight back to Shopify needs Max, at $249.99 a year, and each image Photoroom publishes to Shopify still counts as an export. If video ads are on the list, that is also Max: Pro has no Video Generator at all.
How good is Photoroom's background remover?
Photoroom's background remover carries no credit cost on every paid plan, but this review did not test its cutout quality and quotes no accuracy figure of its own. TechRadar's review, updated in August 2026, describes Photoroom's AI tools as easy and impressive while noting that some requests need repeating and credits run out quickly. Two Trustpilot reviewers disagree outright: Ash Leach (September 2026) calls the background removal "insanely good", while John Scoggins (July 2026) reports jagged edges and missing sections. Two reports cannot settle quality either way.
Hair, glass, jewellery and other transparent or fine-detail products are where any cutout tool is most likely to fail, and none of the Photoroom pages read for this review documents a limit or a guarantee for them. The practical check costs nothing: run your hardest product through the free tool for a private, non-commercial look before you pay, and judge the edge at full size.
Because background removal uses no AI credits, retrying a difficult cutout costs an export when you save it, not credits. For generative tools that do use credits, Photoroom runs an AI credit refund route: failed generations are refunded automatically, and a result you flag as a "Bad result" shortly after generating can be refunded if Photoroom judges it clearly unusable. Some tools, including Recolor and Flat Lay inside the Batch Editor, are excluded.
AI Backgrounds, the feature that places a cut-out product in a generated scene, is a different job from removal and draws on credits. If generated scenes are your main need, our guide to AI image generators covers the tools built for that first.
What do Photoroom users report?
Photoroom users on Trustpilot split sharply: support and background removal draw praise, while trial charges, billing and the summer 2026 app changes draw most of the complaints. Photoroom's Trustpilot page showed 273 reviews and a TrustScore of 2.2 on October 23, 2026, with its own star bars at 71 percent one-star and 18 percent five-star. The page also notes that Photoroom has not asked customers for reviews recently, which Trustpilot says means the reviews may not be representative. The account below reads the 40 most recent reviews, posted from late May to October 2026.
Trial charges are the most specific complaint: six of the 40 describe being charged after or instead of a free trial.
- Svetlana Smith (September 2026) writes that a family member had once tried the app on the same Apple ID, so the trial did not apply and Apple took the £69.99 annual fee the moment they tapped Continue on a screen headlined with the 7-day trial.
- Michelle Gomez (July 2026) says they expected the $89.99 yearly plan after a trial and were charged $990, which is the Ultra yearly price.
- Raymond Baptiste (June 2026) reports a £250 charge after a few hours on the trial. Photoroom's public reply says no charge can happen without the user selecting a specific plan.
- Varol Stavas (October 2026) and Dianna Nicol (October 2026) both say they cancelled inside the trial and were charged anyway; Nicol adds that the refund request was answered by a bot.
App changes are the second pattern: seven of the 40 say the app got worse after recent updates.
- BG (September 2026), paying over $100 a month, writes that the August 2026 updates made each photo take ten times as long to edit.
- Alejandra Rodríguez (September 2026) and Dave VW (October 2026), a Pro subscriber, both name the redesigned batch editing workspace.
- Paul Jackson (September 2026), a user of a year and a half, writes that batch processing is sold as handling 250 images but should be kept nearer 100 before it stops working properly.
- Mr Fossey (May 2026) cites recent subscription price increases, and Paul Stephenson (June 2026) says the in-app "Talk to someone" option returned an error page.
The generative tools draw complaints about fidelity and policy blocks. Kamil Drzazga (October 2026), who paid for several months for a clothing brand, estimates that about every third Edit with AI result missed the prompt, and that app crashes lost generated images along with the credits spent on them. juliet mclaggan (June 2026) says AI fashion model output changed both the model and the clothing; Photoroom replied that it now checks fidelity between the original and the generated image automatically. A tights seller displayed on Trustpilot as Customer (August 2026) reports "violates our policies" blocks on simple product images, and Photoroom replied that it prefers to be restrictive. Karl (August 2026) says their team was pushed onto a higher plan and left about EUR 250 of credits unused each month.
Support divides the record almost evenly: ten of the 40 praise it and eight criticise it. Darlene Sherman (September 2026) says a credit error on an upgraded plan was fixed within 24 hours, after half an hour spent finding a way to reach support through an AI assistant. Scott Miller (October 2026) says Photoroom resolved a problem with their contract limits for the coming year, Jono (August 2026) says Photoroom refunded two months during a period of financial hardship, and Diana Ramos (October 2026), a user of two and a half years, says replies come fast. On the other side, thang nguyen (September 2026) rates support one star, and Dave VW and Paul Stephenson describe it as hard to reach.
Forty reviews on one platform, posted by people who chose to write, show which problems recur. They cannot show how common those problems are among Photoroom's customers.
Where does Photoroom's marketing disagree with its own documentation and its users?
Photoroom's own pages and its users' reports contradict its headline claims in six places, read on October 23, 2026.
- Photoroom's company description on Trustpilot says the batch editor handles up to 250 product images at once; Paul Jackson's September 2026 review says to keep batches nearer 100.
- The signup screen leads with the 7-day free trial, while Photoroom's trial article limits it to first-time subscribers. Svetlana Smith's September 2026 review shows what that gap costs on a shared Apple ID.
- The pricing page's Pro card lists Adjustable AI Shadows as not included, while the comparison table on the same page gives Pro "up to 800 generations" of it.
- Every plan card advertises "Unlimited core tools", and the same page carries a footnote that fair-use limits apply. A separate help article confirms a daily usage limit on those tools, lower on Free and described as unlikely to be reached on paid plans.
- The pricing page shows one credit figure per plan, while Photoroom's FAQ and credits article both state the allowance may vary by country or region. Loaded from Turkey, the same page showed 4,500 Pro credits and 14,000 Max credits, against 8,000 and 25,000 in its US catalog.
- Photoroom's plans article describes the Free plan as a limited version of the product without mentioning that it cannot be used for a business; only the separate commercial-use article says so.
What has changed at Photoroom in 2026?
Photoroom's help center documented new limit rules in July 2026, and One Trustpilot reviewer dates a round of app changes to August 2026. The dated entries:
- July 8, 2026: Photoroom's help center published its AI credit refund process for unsuccessful generations.
- July 15, 2026: the daily usage limit on Free Utilities (Background Remover, AI Expand, Image Enhancer, preset shadows, Resize, Retouch) was documented.
- July 16, 2026: Photoroom documented a single, universal export limit per plan, stating that previous versions had a mix of different export limits.
- August 2026: TechRadar's review listed Pro at 4,250 credits, Max at 12,000 and Ultra at 20,000 a month.
- August 2026: by BG's account, an app update slowed editing; Alejandra Rodríguez and Dave VW, writing in September and October, describe a redesigned batch editing workspace.
- October 23, 2026: Photoroom's US catalog lists Pro at 8,000 credits, Max at 25,000 and Ultra at 75,000, with exports unchanged at 1,000, 3,000 and 10,000. Whether the credit gap since August is a plan change or a regional difference is not established; Photoroom says allowances vary by region.
Is Photoroom good for ecommerce sellers?
Photoroom is good for ecommerce sellers who need the same treatment on many product photos, because its plans are sized in monthly exports and its core cleanup tools carry no credit cost. The features aimed at stores include batch editing, the Shopify integration on Max and above, AI Fashion Models for apparel, and Ghost Mannequin, which Photoroom's credits article names among the credit-based tools.
Etsy and eBay sellers upload their images by hand, the same way a Pro subscriber on Shopify does, because Shopify is the one store integration Photoroom's pricing page names. For them Pro at $89.99 a year is the relevant plan, and Max's Shopify integration adds nothing.
Does Photoroom support batch editing?
Photoroom supports batch editing on its paid plans, and each image in a batch counts separately against both limits: one export per image saved, and one generation per image when an AI tool runs in the Batch editor, per Photoroom's AI credits article. Photoroom's own company description on Trustpilot puts the batch size at up to 250 images, matching TechRadar's figure, and one long-time user's report above suggests staying nearer 100.
Does Photoroom work with Shopify?
Photoroom works with Shopify from the Max plan upward. The pricing page lists Shopify Integration as not included on Pro and included on Max and Ultra, and Photoroom's export rules count each image update published to Shopify as one export. A Shopify seller on Pro can still edit in Photoroom and upload the files by hand.
Can Photoroom make Amazon-ready white backgrounds?
Photoroom can apply a white background without using any AI credits, per its credits article, which covers the most common marketplace requirement. Whether a given export meets a marketplace's full image rules (minimum size, how much of the frame the product fills, no added props) depends on the marketplace and the photo, and Photoroom's pages read for this review do not claim compliance for any specific marketplace. Check the output against the marketplace's own image guidelines.
Does Photoroom train on your product photos?
Whether Photoroom stores uploaded images or uses them to train its models is not confirmed by this review, because Photoroom's privacy policy and terms were not read for it, so the page makes no claim either way. If you photograph unreleased products, read the privacy policy and terms linked in the footer of photoroom.com before uploading. Contract-level terms with SLA and SSO come only with Photoroom's quoted Enterprise plan.
What does Photoroom API pricing look like?
The Photoroom API is a separate product from the app plans: it runs on a fixed monthly image quota billed per call, not on AI credits, per Photoroom's credits article. Each paid app plan also includes an API and MCP credit wallet worth the plan's price, charged at API rates. API per-image prices were not read for this review, and API subscriptions are excluded from Photoroom's refund policy.
What are the best Photoroom alternatives?
The best Photoroom alternative depends on what Photoroom is failing at for you: Canva for wider design work, Picsart for mobile-first social editing, Adobe Express for templates with Adobe's generative credits, Pixelcut for another product-photo editor, and Remove.bg if cutouts are the only job. The table compares starting paid prices as last verified in each tool's review.
| Tool | Best for | Starting paid price | Free plan for business use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photoroom | Repeat product photos | $89.99 a year (Pro) | No, personal use only |
| Canva | General design | $15 a month billed yearly (Pro) | Permanent free plan |
| Picsart | Mobile editing, social | $10.50 a month billed yearly (Pro, archived read) | Free exports watermarked |
| Adobe Express | Templates and generative credits | $99.99 a year (Premium) | Free plan, 25 credits a month |
| Pixelcut | Product photos, background removal | Not verified for this review | Not verified |
| Remove.bg | Cutouts only | Not verified for this review | Not verified |
Canva, Picsart and Adobe Express prices come from our Canva review, Picsart review and Adobe Express review, each with its own read date. For generative fill and background generation inside Adobe's licensing terms, see our Adobe Firefly review.
Photoroom vs Pixelcut
Pixelcut is the closest like-for-like alternative in this list: an AI editor aimed at product photos and background removal. Its prices were not read for this review, so compare them on pixelcut.ai directly. Alexis Valentine's August 2026 review, cited above, ends with the reviewer's move to it.
Photoroom vs Remove.bg
Photoroom and Remove.bg overlap on one job, cutting a product out of its background, and differ on everything after it. Photoroom bundles cutouts with retouching, AI backgrounds, batch editing, Shopify publishing and team Spaces in one monthly plan. Remove.bg is a single-purpose cutout service. Remove.bg's current prices were not read for this review, so check its pricing page directly before comparing cost per image.
Photoroom alternatives for Amazon sellers
An Amazon seller needs a licensed white background at volume, which Photoroom Pro covers for $89.99 a year at no credit cost. The free plans of Canva and Adobe Express allow business use where Photoroom's does not, so they are the zero-cost route for a small catalog, with a less specialised workflow.
Is there a free Photoroom alternative without a watermark?
Canva's free plan is the closest free alternative for business use, since Canva offers a permanent free plan with the full editor, though its background remover is a paid feature per our Canva review. Picsart's free exports carry a visible watermark. No free option in this table matches Photoroom Pro's combination of cutouts at no credit cost and 1,000 monthly exports.
Photoroom vs Canva: which should you pick?
Pick Photoroom if product photos are the job, and Canva if product photos are one part of a wider design job. Photoroom Pro, at $89.99 a year, is sized for catalog work: exports by the thousand, cutout tools that cost no credits, batch editing, and Shopify publishing from Max. Canva Pro, at $15 a month billed yearly per our Canva review, covers social posts, documents, presentations and print alongside image editing, which Photoroom does not attempt.
A store can also split the work, with Photoroom for the listing images and Canva for the banners and social graphics built around them. If you can only pay for one, count your product photos per month. Above a few dozen, Photoroom's export-based plan is the better fit.
Who should not buy Photoroom?
Photoroom is the wrong purchase for four kinds of buyer. If you need colour-critical retouching or editable masks for print, a full photo editor such as Photoshop is the tool. If you design more than you edit photos, Canva or Adobe Express covers more for a similar price; see our AI design roundup. If you only need a few images for a hobby, the free plan is licensed for exactly that and nothing more. And if you subscribe on a phone and manage billing on a laptop, or share Spaces across teams, read Photoroom's cancellation and unexpected-charges articles first, because the platform you pay through is the platform you must cancel on.
How did we review Photoroom?
Photoroom was assessed from the public record, not from a private test. No account was created, no image was edited, and nothing on this page is a measurement of our own. Prices, credits, exports and plan contents were read on photoroom.com/pricing on October 23, 2026, in both states of the Monthly/Yearly toggle, from the US dollar catalog the page carries, and checked against the US App Store listing on the same day. Plan rules, the free-plan licence, trials, limits, cancellation and refunds come from Photoroom's own help center articles, each linked where it is used. User reports come from the 40 most recent reviews on Photoroom's Trustpilot page, read in a browser on October 23, 2026; each one cited is linked to the review itself.
Some gaps are stated here, not filled in. Reddit, G2 and Capterra could not be read on the research date, so the user reports come from one platform. Photoroom's privacy and image-training terms, its API per-image prices, its free-plan watermark and resolution, and the prices of Pixelcut and Remove.bg were not verified. And because Photoroom prices by location and says credit allowances vary by region, a reader outside the US may see different figures from the ones in this review. This page is checked against Photoroom's pricing page every month. Read more on how we research reviews.

Frequently asked questions
Is Photoroom free?
Photoroom has a Free plan, but Photoroom's own terms limit it to personal, non-commercial use, so it is not a free tool for a shop. The help center lists the Free plan with lower AI credit and export limits (100 exports a month in its export-limit table), no API access, and a lower daily limit on tools such as Background Remover. For selling, the cheapest licensed route is Pro at $89.99 a year or $12.99 a month, and the yearly Pro plan carries a 7-day free trial for first-time subscribers.
How much does Photoroom cost in 2026?
In US dollars on photoroom.com, read on October 23, 2026: Pro is $12.99 a month or $89.99 a year, Max is $34.99 a month or $249.99 a year, and Ultra is $99 a month or $990 a year. Enterprise is quoted. Paying yearly saves about 42 percent on Pro, 40 percent on Max and 17 percent on Ultra. Photoroom says the AI credit allowance in each plan may vary by country.
What is the difference between Photoroom credits and exports?
They are two separate caps. AI credits pay for generative tools such as AI Backgrounds, AI Fashion Models, Edit with AI and Video Generator. Exports count every image you save, download, share or publish to Shopify, one per image including each image in a batch. Background removal and the other core tools use no credits on paid plans, so a seller doing plain white-background cutouts runs into the export limit first.
How do I cancel Photoroom?
Cancel on the same platform you subscribed on: the App Store, Google Play, Shopify, or the web app (billed through Stripe) under Billing. Photoroom's help article warns that cancelling on a different platform will not stop billing. Each Space has its own subscription, so check the web app's Billing page for every Space and every old account you may have.
Can I get a refund from Photoroom?
Possibly, within 7 days of your last payment for Pro, Max or Ultra, and Photoroom says refunds are not guaranteed. API subscriptions are not eligible. If you subscribed through Apple, Google or Shopify, the refund is handled by that store, not by Photoroom.
Does Photoroom work with Shopify?
Yes, from the Max plan upward. Photoroom's pricing page lists Shopify integration as not included on Pro and included on Max and Ultra. Every image Photoroom publishes back to Shopify counts as one export against the plan's monthly limit.
Is Photoroom better than Canva for product photos?
For repeat product photos, Photoroom is the more specialised tool: core cutout and cleanup tools carry no credit cost on its paid plans, and its plans are sized in monthly exports for catalog work. Canva is the better buy if product shots are a small part of a wider design job, because its paid plan covers templates, documents and social design that Photoroom does not try to do.

Picsart
Picsart is a mobile-first, all-in-one AI photo and video editor with 20+ generative AI tools, built for casual creators and small businesses, not professional print work. The free plan is genuinely usable but capped and watermarked. An archived August 26, 2026 capture of Picsart's own pricing page shows two paid tiers, both metered in credits: Pro at $15 a month, or $10.50 billed yearly, and Ultra at $47 a month, or $37.50 billed yearly, priced per seat. This page previously put Ultra at about $18 to $25 and that was wrong. The product ceiling is unchanged: Picsart's background remover trails Remove.bg and Photoroom on fine, stray-hair detail.
Canva
Canva is an all-in-one templates-and-AI design platform built for non-designers, not a pixel-precision tool for professional work. The free plan is genuine and includes up to 200 Standard AI uses a month. Pro is $18/mo month-to-month, or $15/mo billed annually ($180 a year); Business is $25 per person month-to-month, or $250 a year. The real ceiling: no native PSD export, and an AI Pass add-on whose price Canva does not publish.
Adobe Express
Adobe Express is Adobe's Firefly-powered, template-and-brand-kit design app for social posts, flyers, logos, and short video, built for non-designers rather than professional print work. The free plan includes 25 generative AI credits a month with no rollover; Premium is $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr; and a third individual tier, Adobe Firefly Pro, sits above it at $19.99/mo, where the same twelve months cost $203.88 in monthly instalments or $167.99 prepaid. Teams still needs a 2-user minimum on a 12-month term. The real ceiling: no CMYK support and limited vector editing, so print production still needs Illustrator or Photoshop.
Higgsfield
Higgsfield is a credit-based platform that sells access to many video and image models, including Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0 and Google Veo 3.1. Plans run from Starter at $15 a month to Ultra at $129 monthly or $99 billed annually (shown October 17, 2026). Refunds need zero credits used, and dated October 2026 Trustpilot reports describe repeat charges and refused refunds. We rate Higgsfield 3.4 out of 5.
Headshotsly
Headshotsly (headshotsly.com) is an AI headshot generator whose pricing page, read on October 16, 2026, lists $4.99 paid once for 5 photos in 4K, about $1.00 per photo, plus one free full-HD photo with no watermark and no email required. The 14-day guarantee promises to 'work it out', and the terms make any refund discretionary. No independent user reports or likeness data exist for it yet.
Dreamwave
Dreamwave (dreamwave.ai) is an AI headshot generator that turns uploaded selfies into professional portraits, and three dated buyers praise its natural likeness. Its pricing page, read 15 October 2026, listed one-time packages from $35 for 40 photos. Per its FAQ, refunds end once upload starts, and two 2025 Reddit posts reported seeing the price only after uploading. Trustpilot showed 3.1 on 12 reviews.
